Supporting a bilingual education

At TCC, the primary language of academic instruction is English, ensuring that students achieve proficiency and can seamlessly integrate into any English-speaking educational environment. Recognizing the diverse backgrounds of our students, we provide robust support for English language learners (ELL) to help them succeed academically and socially.
English Language Learner Support
We employ the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) model, a research-based and validated instructional framework that effectively integrates language development with academic content learning. The SIOP model ensures that ELL students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while mastering subject matter.
Spanish Language Instruction
Understanding the importance of bilingualism in our globalized world, we also offer Spanish language classes. These classes not only help native Spanish speakers maintain their language skills but also provide non-native speakers with the opportunity to learn and appreciate another language and culture. Our bilingual approach enhances cognitive abilities, promotes cultural understanding, and prepares students for a multicultural world. By fostering proficiency in both English and Spanish, we equip our students with valuable communication skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Additionally, enrichment classes are taught primarily in Spanish, giving students time in both English and Spanish daily. All students at TCC speak both English and Spanish.
