What is "Third Culture?"

Palm Trees

“Third Culture Kid” is a phrase often applied to children with internationally transient families. But what is meant by “Third Culture”?

The first culture is the one where the child’s parents are from, or for an adult their country of origin. (That may mean someone has more than one “first culture” if their parents are from different countries!)

The second culture belongs to the country in which you are living: Mexico, in our case.

And the Third Culture is the one created when these come together to form a community: students, families, & teachers of diverse backgrounds sharing common experiences.

Our school celebrates this diversity, encouraging students to explore and appreciate various cultural influences while developing their own identities. By embracing the Third Culture mindset, we prepare our students to be adaptable, empathetic, and open-minded global citizens.

Classroom: Small By Design

Our school is intentionally designed to be small, fostering a close-knit and supportive community. With a limited number of spaces available, we can provide individualized attention and tailored instruction to each student. This approach allows us to nurture each child's strengths, address their unique needs, and promote active engagement in the learning process. Our "small by design" philosophy creates an intimate and collaborative learning environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

At Third Culture Classroom, we believe that education is not one-size-fits-all. Our personalized approach, coupled with our commitment to celebrating cultural diversity, sets us apart as a place where students can truly flourish. Join us in Tulum and be a part of our dynamic and inclusive community.
